Stone house—the words just conjure up visions of charming English country cottage homes. You all know by now that I am an Anglophile. I love stone cottages, walls, gardens, paths—they make me smile. And this lovely stone house has it all.
The edged drive planted with hydrangea, pachysandra and boxwood leads to the walled, gravel courtyard entry planed with the same varieties of plants. ‘Welcome, please come in for a visit’… should be on a sign above the door. The many roof lines and choice of entrance ways add to its curb appeal.
Charming details such as the small vents, dovecote over the garage, nailhead shutters, covered entries and stone steps stopped me immediately for a closer look. Notice the details and maybe you can find a charming idea that would be perfect for your home!

I would love to see inside. I have been watching this one—landscaping is looking good now.

Do you haven idea what type of stone they used. I would love to use it on a new build!
Tammy, I think this is a local fieldstone. I have similar one at my house. Mine is a mixture of gray and brown stones. Check with your local stone man—be sure to take a picture with you.

Where is “local” for you? We’ve been searching for this stone everywhere.
Angela, Local for this stone is the Highlands—Cashiers area of North Carolina. Check with a local stone mason for the source of this stone. I show an example of the stone to my mason and let them bring me samples. I hope this helps.

Any idea how this house is laid out?
Ruthann, This is a favorite of mine. I do know a little about the layout. The middle is open and has high
ceilings. There is a bedroom on the left and I think the kitchen is on the right and to the back of
the home. The small addition on the front right is a golf cart garage—sooo cute. I hope this helps
you a little—you must be thinking of building!
