Friday to Monday

Sargentina Carabapple trees
Crabapple trees on the way.

This Friday to Monday how about having a gardening weekend! I discovered the beautiful Sargentina Crabapple tree while  reading Carolyne Roehm’s book about her magnificent gardens, Carolyne Roehm at Home in the Garden. One photo and I was hooked—had to have a few for my garden.

I can’t tell you how many garden centers in the area I have checked with about these trees for two years! I now have 12 of them going in as a hedge down the side of the West Wing thanks to my architect and friend Keven Hawkins.

I also have a few lilacs that made it through the winter that will be planted between the trees on the opposite side of the locus rail along with nine David Austin roses in several shades of pink. The whole new area will be white, lilac and shades of pink when they are all in bloom—I love it when a plan comes together! I am sooo happy to finally have a sunny spot in the garden—we’re even laying sod for Mr. P.
