The 17th annual Cashiers Designer Showhouse begins this weekend. This year’s home is situated on 29 beautiful acres and surrounded by woods, ponds, winding trails, gardens and a spectacular view of Whiteside Mountain. The house is called the Hillard house, but it was built by Larry and Betsy Powell from Atlanta … it will always be The Powell House to me. All of the bedrooms were designed around the view—except one belonging to a teenager who slept all day. LOL, we all know one of those.
Built at the head of the Chattooga river, the home was sited and originally landscaped by John McCarly of Cashiers. The stone foundation was built using stones gathered from an old road leading to the property and the other stone used for the landscaping and gardens were locally sourced from Yellow Mountain located between Highlands and Cashiers. A skilled stone mason, Leland Huey, is responsible for all of the amazing stone work on the property.
The stunning porch featured below was designed by the talented Lynn Monday of Cashiers. I love Lynn’s use of Faux Boise china with the blue and white color scheme—I can never get enough blue and white! She repeats the pattern with the blue dinning chairs. The draperies perfectly frame the view and feature box pleated edging with a Greek key detail. The porch corners are anchored by large urns mossed and filled with ferns and the view is framed by large ivy topiary from Keven Hawkins. What a romatic setting for an Alfresco dinner. Lynn also has a new book out, Southern Mountain Living, with more design ideas for you.
The show house, The Powell House, only runs for August 23 through August 31 this year, so hurry on up to catch the wonderful view and beautiful design work. Here is a link the Cashier Historical Society for more information.

Lynn Monday does it again. It’s great looking and so fresh with the blue and white. Can’t wait to see it in person. The French wire urns with the ferns are great and so are the topiary ivy. Gorgeous faux bois dinnerware too. Great job Lissy highlighting Lynn’s design. Beautiful post.
I hope you enjoy the house. The French wire urns may have to come live at the Parker house.

We really enjoyed this blog post and the lovely preview of the 17th annual Cashiers Designer Showhouse and Lynn Monday’s beautiful porch decor there. We can’t wait to see the entire show house. All the best, and much continuing success!
Loy, I understand you supplied the original logs for the home. Everything looks wonderful. Lynn Monday’s porch is a real show stopper—a love anything blue and white.

Was a blessing to spend my summers up there! Thanks for such a great tribute to my parents for creating such a special place for my brothers and me to grow up in. Miss that house 🙂
Harrison, You are most welcome! I loved hearing all of your Mother’s stories about the house. The house and setting are just so beautiful. You are a lucky boy to have had such a wonderful home to enjoy.

Lissy, thank you sooooo much for sharing the house! I don’t think we are going to make the tour this year. So I will just have to experience it through your lovely posts. That blue and brown color scheme is gorgeous. We are currently looking at a lake house, and after seeing this post, I am thinking that might be a great color scheme for it if we end up with the house.
Kelly, Blue and White is a wonderful color scheme for a lake house. Good luck ob your search and have a great time looking.

Lissy-
Your blog on the 2014 Cashiers Decorator Showhouse was a gift to me that brought to mind some of the best memories of my life! I left our” tour ” Saturday full of gratitude! Blessed beyond measure! What a privilege my husband and I shared in building a house on Timber Ridge for our three little boys.
We never knew how impacting those growing-up- years spent in the North Carolina mountains would be. I thank God for them and recognize that they are the men they are today because of their years in Cashiers…Thank you for sharing a bit about such a wonderful place.
Betsy
You are so very welcome!
