Container Gardens = Happy

Fall harvest tomatoes
Wow, that is a lot of tomatoes.

Ever feel like you just need a vacation from the world but, you have WAY too much going on at home to take one? Julia Roberts’s line from the movie Something to Talk About sums it all up: “I don’t have time for the nervous breakdown I deserve right now.”

This container garden of herbs helps to keep me sane these days—a little relief from the frenzy of the world. More than a simple kitchen garden, this precious pot of herbs is my aroma therapy garden and my attempt to channel Ina Garten! The basil has grown to 4′ and the other herbs are not far behind. We found tomatoes growing in the compost pile! The ones in the photo were purchased from Osage Farmers Market before we found the compost tomatoes.

Why not add a little Barefoot Contessa to ease your day and pot up a container of herbs to brighten your mood! You can always bring them inside this Winter.

  1. Your tomatoes and herbs look great! You can make lots of sauces with your canned tomatoes! I see you have a lemon tree. I did not know they could grow there. Do you bring it in during winter or leave it out?

    1. Cathy, We have 3 lemon trees. Last year we harvested 26 lemons! We bring them into the garage and
place in front of a west facing window for the winter. So far, so good—we have had them for 3 years now.
