White Rabbit, no White Squirrel

WThere is a little known phenomenon that occurs here in Western North Carolina. Until last Summer I had never been a witness to this little local legend—then I witnessed it twice in one day here in Cashiers. Today we were at the Cornucopia for a quick and delicious lunch when we witnessed it again—this time we had a camera on hand. What did I see? A white squirrel! They are amazing little creatures. Legend has it that a pair of these snow white squirrels were a gift from someone in Florida to a girl in Brevard, N.C.. They have migrated here to Cashiers and can be seen around Cashiers Lake. This little cutie was seen on the porch bird feeder of landscape designer Mary Palmer Dargan’s home and office. The little garden shed under construction is a real charmer too. Check out her website here.

  1. Wow! Spunky is back! Our neighbor feeds 3 and they recently found us. One has a racing stripe… This the name. I’m out of town and love seeing this picture of the porch on our garden shed. Glad the workers filled up the feeder!
