Who will fill Charles Faudree’s shoes? No one comes to my mind. I’ll always think of him as the kindly gentleman who lived quietly and elegantly down the mountain from me. Mr. Faudree may have been a modest gentleman, but even to know him casually, as a neighbor, was to know that the delightful interiors he designed around the country were reflective of his keen wit and his eye for the distinctive, the extraordinary, and the beautiful.
To quote Charles “You can be inspired by buildings, a fabric or a piece of furniture. I think you can find inspiration from everywhere; just use your eyes.”
Mr. Faudree was the quintessential designer. Most importantly, he helped us redefine French Country. He also revived an interest in Black Forest decorative pieces and used them prominently in his mountain homes.
With admiration I drove up his driveway this past Wednesday for his estate sale, and I photographed these lovely rooms complete with many decorative items that Mr. Faudree had collected and arranged to perfection—for his own home. I’m delighted to have captured bits and pieces of his personal style with my iPhone—with permission, of course.
And as you remember this delightful man, enjoy these pieces that filled his home. Now, think about the treasures that you have collected and be inspired by Charles’s skill at arranging beautiful things. It’s your turn, so go get busy!
Wouldn’t Mr. Faudree love to know he had inspired you to create beauty.

Lissy, the faux bois fabric on the Hitchcock chairs could be Brunschwig. They have one currently….but, not identical. Also, the squirrel and nut wallpaper was originally an Osborne & Little…..no longer available.
Hope you purchased something? Great Post!
Thanks Carolyn-I will correct now!

Hard for me to tell exactly, but are the faux bois fabric and paper the same … Did Janey buy ALL the Cavalier portraits? Thank you for this wonderful tour!!
Darrin, Janie missed all of the paintings and the Dog step for the bed. She was so sad. The paper is Charles’s for Vervain. The fabric is older, one reader suggested maybe Brunswig. I hope to find it—love the texture if has.

Great photos, Lissy- thanks for sharing!
Thanks Bill! I loved everything in the house. Hope your treasures find good homes—or come to live at your house.

Lovely Lissy. Hope you were able to score a memento or two for yourself? Yes Mr Faudree was a one-off, and yes he absolutely inspired us! As do you. Thank you!
Frances, I had the best time just looking. I had to go back because I kept forgetting things. The whole house was an amazing arrangement of his collections.

Thank you, thank you. Great post and great photos. I can never thank you enough for all my gifts and mementos from Charles’s collection. Charles came into my shop quite often with his friends and clients from Tulsa. I will always remember his kindness, his wit, and his great love for beauty – he always had a kind word and genuine compliment. He was the authentic article, an old school decorator, and a great luncheon companion. Cashiers will really miss him.
Keven, You are so very welcome. Charles will truly be missed. He was a true gentleman. xo
Lissy what a treasure trove! I hope you snagged some treasures for yourself. That Faux Bois table was to die for! Can’t wait to hear what you got. I wonder what will happen to his line with Vervain? His animal prints are some of my favorites!

I think that stone and lucite table may sill be available-let me know if you want me to check.

What a wonderful post, but it is so sad to think that he is gone. You did great photographing his home. I adore that watering can and garden tool arrangement, and those Hitchcock chairs were absolutely beautiful. I could find a dozen uses for them here! Thank you for sharing the post with all of us.
Kelly, I miss him already. Such a sweet, kind gentleman. I loved the Hitchcock chairs too-new homeowner bought them. I did come away with a few purchases.
You will see the Garden tool arrangement again.

Hi Lissy, I love all your photos!! I am a true fan of Mr Faudree. I have decorated 3 different homes with him in mind. He still inspires me. I wish I had been able to get something from his estate sale for sentimental reasons. How fortunate you were to have known him and how lucky are we all to still have all the beautiful photos he left us.
Amanda
Amanda, Thank you! It was a great privilege to get to know him. He was the sweetest most talented person I have
